"Details of your incompetence do not interest me."

For this week only, I'm working at a magazine in the editing department, and so I've decided to list my top 5 movies that are about, well, working at a magazine. They're in no particular order by the way. Click the numbers to see the trailers.

Top 5 Magazine Related Movies:

1) The Devil Wears Prada - the first time I watched this, I enjoyed it. But after a second viewing, I wasn't so keen. There are a few laughs along the way but it isn't an amazing film.

2) 13 going on 30 - I really like this film; it's innocent and girly but it also teaches you a valuable life lesson: don't try and grow up too fast!

3) How to Lose Friends and Alienate People - Comedy genius, I love Simon Pegg :) Definintely watch this (but be warned, there's a dodgy scene with a trannie).

4) How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days - Ok so I'll admit it, I never watched the end of this film, but what I saw was actually rather hilarious. It's a really clever idea for a movie :D

5) Confessions of a Shopaholic - I quite liked this, it may have been silly at times and ever so slightly stereotypical towards women, but it was a fun film to watch with a group of friends.

Comments are appreciated :) honest.

"Some labels are best left in the closet."

Sex and the City, The Movie: the story of 4 (mature) women, their relationships, careers, motherhood and life in Manhattan. Slightly more of a female film, just slightly.

Having only ever seeing brief clips of the TV series, I didn't know quite what to expect. I didn't expect it to be particularly intellectual and mainly based around fashion - I was pretty much right. Their existence appears to revolve around their wardrobe.

The storyline focuses on Carrie and Big - will they get married? Miranda and divorce, Samantha and her attracttive neighbour, and Charlotte being a mum. At times the action got a bit tedious but it does focus on many different aspects of life, I guess that's good.

One of the features that REALLY annoyed me, was that for a film that heavily focuses on fashion, some of the clothes were horrible, really truly gross. I admit that I did like some items of clothing, and even though I doubt I'd ever wear most of the things that Carrie wears, I did really like some. But there were too many that were hideous. The major offensive item, for me, was the designer handbag that Carrie buys for her PA - it is not pretty. And that's why I just couldn't understand why the PA's face lit up at the sight of it. Probably just because it was designer.

This film has taught me that even if clothes cost loads, and have a respected designer: it doesn't make them nice.

However, I guess I enjoyed it on the whole as it is quite a fun and upbeat film most of the time, but I found it difficult to relate to the characters (having never seen a full episode from the series). Also, they were quite a lot older than me and so their problems vary greatly from mine.

"Woods comma Elle."

Looking for a girlie chick flick to watch on a sleepover, while eating toffee popcorn and painting your nails? Look no further than Legally Blonde, the tale of confident and glamourous Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. And what she wants at the start of the film, is to win back the 'love of her life', aka Warner. The only way for Elle to achieve this dream is to go to Harvard Law School.

It's sounds predictable and slightly cheesy - this is because it is.
The storyline is - at times - hard to believe. For example, Elle successfully manages to get into Harvard because she sends the old, male proffessors a tape of her in numerous different bikinis. The whole film centers around the idea that, no matter how you look and what people think of you, you can achieve your dreams. Not that different to multiple other American teen movies.
The music throughout the film is probably the worst feature, it's repetitive and sounds like something I'd play musical bumps to when I was in primary school. I was also disappointed with most of Elle's outfits, you'd think a fashion student would know better. Her wardrobe consists of mainly pink items and she appears to have an accessory in every different shade of pink imaginable. However, the film teaches not to jude on appearances so I think I can ignore this minor flaw.
On the whole, it's quite a nice film. it brightened my mood a bit and I learnt that if you have an annoying little dog, a friend who will give you a manicure in every other scene and a fluffy pink pen; you can achieve anything.

I'd advise you to steer clear if you aren't a fan of chick flicks with predictabe storylines, but if you're looking for a happy, (if a little trashy) girly movie then I definitely reccomend Legally Blonde (and Legally Blonde 2 if you're uber keen).
